Exploring the role of course titles on course selection of students from BME backgrounds

The project aimed to provide evidence on the influence of course title and course structure on the course choice of students from black and ethnic minority Widening Participation (WP) backgrounds. It investigated factors informing participants’ decision making to better understand admissions patterns of the target group.

The research was conducted by Up Our Street’s multi-ethnic research team between March and July 2017. It queried students from the University of Bristol, the City Academy and IntoUniversity’s East Bristol academic support centre in a series of interviews and focus groups.
